This was 2012.
I mentioned I’m a mom of 2 kids, my daughter who is now 23, is in the Air Force. My son who is now 20 is in the Marines. Guess how many moms that are my age have 2 kids that age that are in the military that I know? People that are in the military relate better to other people in the military. They think Civilians are a little strange….at least that’s what my daughter says.
Well I’m here to say that moms with kids in the military relate a lot better to other parents with kids in the military. Problem is trying to find those parents to actually socialize with.
I work with a bunch of moms with young kids, or kids going to college. Its hard to talk about your kids when other parents have no idea of what I go through and have went through…during boot camp, graduation, moving, visits home, being far away, missing them, and much more.
My daughter lives in Illinois, my son lives in N. Carolina. I live in Ohio. I’m lucky to see them twice a year. They leave when they’re told they can leave.
Anyone in the military knows how it goes, but explaining to a military ignorant person, about things like I HAVE to take off work in 2 weeks cause my kids are coming home, or OMG my son has duty for 3 days in a row, or OMG my daughter has a PT test next week, or cool, my son is now Lance Corporal……..well, they just look at you like your crazy or …uh…OK.
I’m just saying, It sucks to not have anyone around that I can relate to about my kids, atleast on a daily basis or at lunch.
Well, I don’t know about your kids college tuition problems because I don’t have to worry about that, mine go for free.
I’m sorry your 20 year old can’t find a job to help pay rent while he goes to college, cause my kids get free rent, free food, and free college….end of conversation.
I just wonder if anyone else has felt this way?
